1989 lincoln continental-air to coil conversion parts interchange-what other ford parts will work for this?
i have an 89 conti and am sick of fighting with air suspension and am looking for compatible parts to convert it-an interchange list of parts IS VERY HARD or has been near impossible to locate. this model has the 3.8 litre engine. i would need to know what parts are useable from other ford, lincoln, mercury.I am not interested in buying online conversion kits and I am aware that parts DO exist but I am so poor that this will have to be done VERY cheaply and I am doing it myself so perhaps a few insrtuctions would be helpful too. I know that there are parts for this that do not require any sort of modification to the existing mounts from the air suspension but ifo is way too hard to find and this is my only form of transportation for myself and two baby girls so ANYTHING you could pass on would be GREAT thanks so much

An ‘89 Continental was one of FoMoCo’s WORST vehicle around. A Lincoln is a vehicle that is loaded with “bells & whistles” intended for PEOPLE WITH MONEY. Once it gets to be more than five years old, it no longer becomes a desirable vehicle to own, since repairs become expensive.
Your particular vehicle has been notorious for head gasket, timing cover gasket & engine failures. The transmission has also been prone to failures.
Lastly, and definitely, the air suspension will ALWAYS fail on those cars. Just by virtue of everything mentioned, you are MUCH better off dumping the car, and finding another vehicle that is better suited to your needs (since money is so tight). If the question you are asking is, will conventional struts and springs from a Taurus/Sable fit your vehicle, the answer is NO. That is why the kit you mention exists.
I’m sorry but even if you ATTEMPT to tackle this job yourself, it will not be a cheap affair. You are far better off getting a smaller more economical form of transportation if money is such an issue. Sorry if it’s not what you wanted to hear.

I have a lincoln continental same year and just converted my air struts to regular struts. I got mine off ebay from a user giturdone. He sold me all four for 200.00 and free shipping. He sells them for more than that but, gives the option to make an offer. We put them in ourselves but it was not fun. I sure love my ride now though lincolns are so much fun and mine is just as smooth as before the conversion. Most other places charge 500.00 for a set. Before I got these I had to walk or bike with my two sons, I know how it is without a ride. I felt so lost without my car. Good luck

For the 89 Lincoln struts use 89 Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable struts. No need to go with the companies that say they make special struts. My boyfriend changed mine right in my driveway.

The conversaion kits are not the expensive but if you are going to do it then get Ford Tuarus or Mercury Sable parts and they will work but finding everything you need is going to cost as much as the kit.
