Are jeep Cherokees, built onthe same platform as a Dodge Caliber?
borjathebulldawg asked:
My wife test drove a Jeep Compass and a Dodge caliber, and decided on the Caliber. (I drivea 94 Cherokee and was hoping to geta second Jeep.) I parked next to a Jeep Compass, and they seem to be the same car. A little Diferant Sheet metal, and Compass seems to have a bit higher suspension, but the roof, body lines, seats dash, width, all seem to be the same. Gonna be bummed out if I paid more money for a Caliber, when I could have gotten the same car with 4 wheel drive, and a better engine.
I love my Cherokee, its what God would drive if needed a Car. Just have a soft spot for anything Jeep. Even the new ugly ones. and thanks, I’m goin to have to havea long discussion with my wife. Thanks guys
Sorry about the typo. I just noticed, The question should be; Are the Dodge Caliber and the Jeep Compass the same platform.

the compas is. the cherokee is not.
jeep just made a little suv with a CVT that makes a low gear ratio of 19:1… which anywheeler can tell you is amazing. even with a puny little 140hp engine it will climb mountains.

your cherokee is built like a jeep, solid front and rear suspension, were the caliber and compass have independent front and rear, so they are more like a car when it comes to ride and handling. your jeep is a real jeep, the compass is not, you would never want to go off roading with a compass. and yes, the caliber and compass have the same plateform, so in a way, there the same car. just different sheet metal like you said.

the compass and calibre are basically the same as the
other persons have said. the cherokee is a far different
breed of animal.it can trace its heritage to the CJ series,
the wrangler and also its direct relitave the AMC/JEEP
EAGLE 4×4. itself is a modification of using the concord
body and mating it to the cj-7 frame and drivetrain. the eagle
does not have a low range or it would be even a more capable off roader. you might want to consider
buying a jeep liberty if you want to stay within the jeep
theme. it is a very good off roader and a good performer on the road. i hope myself and the others here have helped you out.
good luck

The Compass and Patriot (which I just bought) are built on the same platform at the Caliber. I test drove a Compass great drive. Definately roomy, it wasn’t completely loaded. I don’t know anything about the Caliber. I think between the two the prices are pretty close. If you want to check it out and build the two go to dodge.com and Jeep.com and check it out. Or maybe do some comparison shopping by going to autotrader and checking out what’s on the lots around where you live.

The new 4 Dr Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is also an option and it’s a real 4×4, not just AWD.
