Go with the Rancho I like them better than the Monroe. The Monroe shocks seem to make the truck ride harder for some reason. And yes more of it is with the springs. You want a really nice ride haul around about a 1000lbs of stuff in the back to soften it up.

the shocks dont make the ride stiff its the springs, nothing can be done unless you get some custom springs

I just bought Monroe shocks for my 96 2500, and it’s very stiff unless you have a heavy load on the back. We were surprised on how stiff it was, I guess we should have gotten gas filled shocks, they always ride like a Cadillac.LOL
