On top of each front strut are strut bearings, not bushings which keeps the coil spring under compression and allow the strut to turn side to side. The rear struts have strut bushings mounted on top of the coil springs.

You could rent a pair of coil spring compressing tools from Auto Zone or have the coil springs compressed at a new car dealership or a private mechanic. If you have over 80,000 miles on the present struts they’re most likely whipped anyway.

PARTS ARE AROUND 40 DOLLARS AND THE LABOR IS AROUND 120. THE STRUT HAS TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED.
