I Need Shocks – Why the Big Difference in Price w/ Monroe?
insharc asked:
Guy at parts store tells me both lifetime warranteed, but that the Monroe Gasmatics are only $18 or $22, depending on whether front or rear, and the Monroe Sensatracs are about $45 each.

He said I should get the Sensatracs, “much better quality.”
But I have an ‘89 shortbed Nissan pickup, and rarely haul, and when I do it’s maybe 800 to 1000 lbs max in the bed.
Do I really need the Sensatracs, or are the Gasmatics good? (A friend is putting them in for me.)

The Gas Matics are just a HD replacement shock. The Sensatracs have some new fangled way to adjust to road conditions. They are the latest thing they have. The Gas Matics are just fine for an older truck and will do the job just fine. Either one one will seem firm for awhile as you are use to the old ones bouncing around……………UJN

The Gasmatics will be fine, they are the same quality shock as the original Nissan shocks. The Sensa Tracs are an upgrade. If it were me, I’d get the Gasmatics, I’ve installed them on many vehicles and never had a problem.

Nothing Monroe makes is OE quality. You need KYB’s for that. Like anything else you do get what you pay for. The Gasmatics will work better than the old worn out stuff you have now, but won’t ride as well or last as long as the Sensatrac.
