Mike H asked:
I just bought a 2002 Silverado with about 160k miles and the factory red gm shocks are toast. I work at a GM dealership so I know what to look for, but I just wanted to know people’s experiences with different shocks. My first thought is to throw on a set of Bilsteins for $60 a piece and can anticipate that I’ll have good results, but I’m trying to minimize what I’m putting into this truck. My question is- what are people’s experiences with the Rancho RS5000 and Pro Comp shocks? They’re a little cheaper so if I can save some coin I’ll go with those unless they’re absolute junk. This truck is mostly street driven with an occasional trip off road, and it’s stock ride height- no torsion keys either. For $25 in the Summit catalog, Pro Comp ES1000’s would get the job done, but if anyone’s got stories to tell, I’d like to know. Is it worth the $10 extra to get the 3000 or the 9000’s if Pro Comp is the way to go? Times are tough, so yes, ten bucks makes a difference!

honestly i would get heavy shocks and just get as cheap as you can find. shocks are a thing thats just gonna wear out through useing a truck, like a truck. with 160,000 miles by the time the new ones are shot, every other suspenion part will be to. so go with the cheap and heavy ones

The factory red shocks are KYB’s made for GM. Since price is the thing now a days, I would search around and see what shocks have a life time guarantee. So that extra $10 bucks would be well worth it is the shocks are lifetime, I don’t think Pro-comp are but worth asking. For price and to see if there is a warranty I would call 4 wheel parts wholesalers
