After the car has been driven and is shut off, locked up etc, this air compressor underneath the hood on the front driver’s side turns on and runs. Does this model have a load-leveling suspension, or what is this compressor used for?

Right – lets get into it.  The kind of vehicle that I own a is a Chrysler New Yorker 1988 and I have a problem with the air suspension.  Now it sags in the back of my car but the small airbags in the back that originally came with it have no holes, rips or tears (that I can see and have tested this).  When I give the suspension some air the hoses seem fine but when I turn my car on, the generator to pump them up makes a noise which makes the back end go up then its a little better but I was looking under there and after about 15 seconds after it pumps air to them it makes like a click noise then it sags back down again the noise comes from the air compressor thing but when i first got the car it never did this what could be wrong so theres no leaks or holes so what?
