Mick asked:

recently had my calipers replaced after 6months since they both were leaking brake fluid which I saw in the wheel well. These were warrantied becasue they were obviously defective. After they were replaced I noticed immediatly that the brakes seemed mushy. I spoke to a friend who told me that if the brake fluid leaks your brake pads should be replaced. I brought the car in and they bled the brakes in case there was air, which they said there wasn’t and they also turned my rotors and scuffed up my pads (both rotars and pads are less than a year old). Now the car is nose diving or jerking when I come to a complete stop. Not dramatically, but definitly causes your head to bob when it happens. It feels to me like the brakes lock too tight when you stop causing the jerking motion, but that’s just my opinion. I took it back to them and now they’re telling me that I need new struts. My question is, if the brake pads WERE contaminated with the brake fluid would that cause any braking issues that would cause my car to brake with the jerking or nose diving motion (feels more like the front back movement when you apply the brakes quickly)? The shop pushed up and down on the hood and said that because it was easy to cause it to move that it must be the struts. I’ve heard different things and would love it if someone could answer this question. Thanks

Air Sruts

Ahmed A asked:

hi to all,
i have a 2002 vw bora/jetta 1.6L engine, i live in cairo egypt, 60% of the roads here arent good you can have lots of surprises like open manholes lots of cat eyes in the middle of the roads, heavy bumps, etc… it means poor quality roads, so my car stock front shocks felt hard so i went to check them at my mechanic and i found that they are leaking oil and need to be replaced so i replaced with normal bilstein shocks in the front only(normal ones with black colour, gas pressure). so after approx. a year the ride become harder so i went to the vw service and they told me that the bushings(rubber thing above the shock needs to be replaced and all the suspension parts are good), so i change them and the car felt awesome and smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth, but much less than 3 months the car went hard again, so is this a bad shock or the bushing doesnt last that much, and for information my rear shocks are stock and needs replacement going for 115000km now!!!, and i have 17″rims with 225/45 tires, and one more thing if i need replacing will i go with stocks again(vw,sachs) or koni(i like smooth rides more but ineed something to last about 3+ years) so please guys help!!!
Guys my car was bought from UAE arabian gulf region with GCC specs(arabian gulf specs resisting heat, smooth suspension, enhanced ac,etc….) my standard wheels were 16″ .
and the thing that i replace wasnt the bushings it was the big cirlce hamburger looking rubber i think called suspension mount.

Suspension Parts
