What brand of shocks/struts would you use?

Peter Griffin asked:

One of my cars needs new shocks. I want something that performs better than OE, improves handling and gives a nice comfortable ride.

As far as I can tell, the only ones available for my vehicle are made by KYB, Monroe and Gabriel.

Out of those three manufacturers, which one would you go with?

If it helps, here are the part numbers for the products I am looking at:

KYB
1921280 – Front
1921281 – Rear

Monroe
71364 – Front (Sensa-Trac)
71326 – Rear (Sensa-Trac)

Gabriel
651713 – Rear only

Thanks!

I have a 98 Pontiac Grand AM GT, do shocks and struts come on both front and back ends of the car?

t_block asked:

I think they need to be replaced because the car sounds like it is going to fall apart from underneath when I hit a small bump in the road, but the question is which would I need to get replaced shocks or struts? What do each of them do? How do I know if I have shocks/struts on either end of the car so I don’t get ripped off by a less-than-truthful mechanic?
