viper v10 or ford v8/spoiler concern?
I’m currently in the tear down of a 71 javelin and turning it into a resto-mod style trans-am javelin(street legal though). And I’m in planning stages while i part off original parts. I’m not worried about the original parts since it was my first car and don’t plan to sell it. There’s two issues that I’m looking for opinions on.
1. powertrain. my current hp goal is atleast 500. i was originally considering a ford v8 crate. but since I wanted a t-56 in viper spec. why not save the trouble of the bellhousing and etc. and just get a viper v10? prices we’re not very different when quoted for a local generation 3 v10 and crate fords on jegs and such.
2. Spoiler…the front spoiler being made is a replica of the trans am javelin. it will be too low to the ground to drive on the street to shows and events. the only solutions I’ve thought of so far (other than not driving on the street). A- make a removable extention to an original front spoiler(probably easiest and closest to original trans-am method) . B-make the spoiler be able to mechanically fold up(dads fav idea). C- since i’m updating the suspension from scratch anyway maybe use an air bag system to be able to raise and lower and stiffen and soften to my liking at a particular time(most costly and probably weighty)
I’m currently working for my mechanical engineering degree so don’t worry. and my father is an amc expert (owned 5 amxs 1 race built) THANKS for taking the time and offering ideas

Shock Absorbers
If the v10 will fit and you are dead set on using that ****** that is your best bet… however I personally think v8 engines sound better. Although there is no denying that the Dodge V10 is fairly stout.
As for the front spoiler you could definitely go with hinges and a small motor driven cable mount that would allow both a down and a folded up position. Controlled by a single switch it can be quite simple. Much like the fold up license plate switch we created for my friends car, although I am in no way recommending doing that to your license plate. Just added to make the point that it can be easily done. You could also make purely cable driven like this guy, and mount it like a choke:

Get discount suspension parts.
No offense, but I’m not a big fan of “inter manufacturer engine relationships”. Why don’t you just drop in a hot AMC engine like a 360 or 401? I bet with a stroker kit, hot cam, and free flowing heads you could get 500+ horsepower out of a AMC V-8 with no problem. Keep your AMC an AMC please. Otherwise buy a Ford or Chrysler.
I know that you want to do a Viper V-10 swap in order to get lots of attention at car shows, but believe me it won’t necessarily be positive attention. You want something unique that stands out right? Put a Weiand blower kit on a 401 big block…that will definitely stand out!
