bilstiens are just good quality components, Konis work too… but tend to be harsher (depending on the model) and more expensive. And Monroes are just the bottom of the barrel
Because they are best for BMW.
Bilstein gas shocks are designed to last up to 120K miles and they are very harsh to your ****. install the shock with H&R sports spring, your car would handle like dream. It beats most of the shocks out there including the Boge BMW OE shocks, and lasts 3 times longer.
Koni is also good and last long (not as long as Bilstein). Also known to be little bit softer than Bilstein HD shocks and some people do prefer this shock over Bilstein. It all depends on the taste. I usually go by the type of wheels used. BMW 3 series with 17″ rim with Bilstein shocks would be **** crunching experience. But with Koni shocks, it is not as bad. For 5 series with 14″ rim, I would put Bilstein shocks with sports spring because it would not be as harsh.
Bilsteins are the best shocks for just about every non off-roading application. They are better constructed and have the best performance. Also they have earned their stripes on the race track as well. Many Indy Car and Formula 1 teams use them on their vehicles.
